The following contains information about the upcoming short story, A Journey’s End. As such you may not wish to read it if you feel it would be spoilery for you. This is part of a series of articles I will be writing as I take an detailed outline approach (“Plan the Trip“) to planning this story.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
Suki’s faith in Triune mirrors Christianity in a world that believes in many gods. Indeed, Forzega has well over 30 well known gods, and many more lesser known ones. Most of the religions and faiths of the world allow for acceptance and even the embrace of worship of some of the other gods, but not Triune. The faith taught to her by her fathers teaches faith, dedication and loyalty to Triune alone. This characteristic, more than any other separates it completely from the other faiths.
Suki carries around a small book secured at the waist filled with the words of Triune. Hand copied by her father from his text (as his father did before him), it contains the summation of all texts that were written by ancient prophets of Triune centuries ago. The leather bond book and pages, magically protected, never suffer damage from age or environmental hazards, such as water.
The faith of Triune emphasizes this loyalty, and a separation from evil and selfish acts, above all else. A follower or priest of Triune must love his or her fellow man, even to the point of laying down one’s life. They must learn to be selfless, caring and giving.
Known to have a strong faith becoming of her father (if not more so), many in the town know of times where Suki healed illness and injury through the laying of lands. The staff, given also by her father and handed down through generations, seems to act as a medium in this regard, and she rarely goes anywhere without it. While many followers of other faiths seem to demonstrate these types of abilities to some degree, none approach the power of which the Triune God demonstrates Himself through this young woman. Doing so multiples times in a day seems to exhaust her, however.
