The following contains information about the upcoming short story, A Journey’s End. As such you may not wish to read it if you feel it would be spoilery for you. This is part of a series of articles I will be writing as I take an detailed outline approach (“Plan the Trip“) to planning this story.
Most Dwarves in Forzega live in the mountain ranges found in the southern part of the continent. More savage and less temperate than the Land of Man or the Domain of Elves, most of the dwarves make home in the various caves found there. It is rumored that they even have built a vast network of cities through a network of those caves and tunnels.
However, they also have a strong sense of tradition that allows for little variation. A number of dwarves have formed towns above ground in some of the fiercest areas known in order to build their own lives apart from the iron rule of the Dwarven monarchy.
Goloff was born in one such town. Eighth in a generation of men with that name, Goloff proved himself a strong and capable defender who fought off small armies of goblins, trolls and orcs alongside his brethren.
It seemed odd to him when his commander, and town leader, Katak, asked him and a number of others to make a caravan run to the capital city for supplies. Goloff never liked to leave the defense of his town in the hands of others, even those he trusted. His worst fears came to fruition when he and his friends returned to a decimated mess. His wife and children dead, Goloff’s heart filled with rage. He briefly considered going back to the king to share his anger and rage over the lack of protection for the above ground provincial towns, but quickly exchanges that idea for one more basic. Goloff’s heart, now filled with burning anger, turned to thoughts for revenge. Unfortunately, he had few clues as to the one responsible…
